Beginning in March 2020, days after the first “stay at home” order was issued in NYC, I began painting myself daily, documenting my personal experience from the epicenter of a once in a 100-year pandemic. The lockdown dragged on and my weeks became months, the nature of the project shifted and the portraits became more anonymous, androgynous, and deeply emotive. The most recent portraits can be appropriately understood as documents of the emotional landscape of a pandemic through the use of color and mark. Moving through the isolation alone and in a small space that functions as a studio, classroom, office, yoga studio, and bedroom has been challenging and enlightening. Pandemic portraits have been sent across the globe. What started as a personal daily practice has evolved into a project that connects me with community while living in a time of social distance
